Beyond Marks And Careers: Mansukh Mandaviya’s Message For India’s Students At TimesNow.in Education Summit 2026

New Delhi: Times Network Digital hosted the TimesNow.in Education Summit 2026 in association with Onextel Communications in New Delhi, today. The summit brought together policymakers, education leaders, vice chancellors, school administrators, EdTech innovators, industry experts, and skill development leaders. Held under the central theme, “The Education Powerhouse of India: Building the Next Generation of Global Talent,” the summit explored how policy reforms, artificial intelligence, digital transformation, research, industry collaboration, and inclusive education are reshaping India’s learning ecosystem. The event also recognised 70+ winners for their excellence and contribution to the education sector.

Speaking at the Summit, Dr Mansukh Mandaviya, Union Minister of Labour and Employment; Youth Affairs and Sports, Government of India, “Make good doctors, engineers, lawyers, and scientists—yes—but first, we must build a responsible citizen who thinks ‘Nation First’. Education is a very broad subject. Perhaps we have confined it to schools, colleges, percentages, and careers. Education is not merely schools, colleges, and careers—it is something much more special than that. young people need not only career clarity but also direction, mentorship and opportunities to translate their ideas into action.” He noted that around 60 per cent of India’s population is below the age of 35 and described the country’s young population as a major strength.

Building on the need for a more holistic approach to youth development, Haryana’s Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Youth Empowerment, Entrepreneurship, and Sports, Gaurav Gautam, shared his views on the holistic development of youth. Describing education and sports as complementary to each other, he emphasized the need to change society’s old mindset. He added, “If you study and write, you will become a prince; if you play and jump, you will become amazing.

The Minister mentioned that the new education system emphasizes connecting youth with skills, knowledge, and startup opportunities, rather than limiting them to mere marks. He added, it is crucial to train youth in Haryana through Skill University, ITI, and Polytechnic systems to meet employment needs. The government has initiated a dual training system to connect youth with companies, in which companies provide tailored courses and training.

He also stated, “Through PM Setu, efforts are being made to connect ITI, Polytechnic, and the Skill Education System with major companies, ensuring youth receive training tailored to current industry needs, and efforts are being made in Haryana to connect athletes with modern technology and training. He added that education is being continuously advanced in Haryana through IITs, IIMs, Skill University, Polytechnic System, and the New Education Policy. The New Education Policy has proven that youth can progress beyond marks through skills and knowledge.”

The Minister also emphasised key initiatives and goals, including Fit India, Fit Haryana, Mission Olympics 2036, and Haryana becoming the first state in the country to establish a Skill University.

The summit also featured discussions on emerging priorities, including education for Viksit Bharat 2047, women-led leadership in education, future-ready skilling, AI-powered learning, and global academic excellence. The conversations recognised the institutions and leaders driving innovation and transformative impact across India’s education landscape.
