Chaudhary Sarwan Kumar Himachal Pradesh Krishi Vishvavidyalaya hosts skill development training for women

A three-day training programme organised by Chaudhary Sarwan Kumar Himachal Pradesh Krishi Vishvavidyalaya, Palampur, through its College of Community Science, under the All India Coordinated Research Project (AICRP)-Women in Agriculture concluded on Wednesday. The aim of the programme was to enhance the skills and entrepreneurial capabilities of 25 farm women associated with Custom Hiring Centres established at Bhadyada (Chauntra block), Buhana (Panchrukhi block) and Tambar (Lambagaon block) under the project.

The training was conducted through specialised departments of the college, where the participants received hands-on experience in the value addition of seasonal fruits and vegetables, the preparation of bakery products, candle making and cushion cover making. The practical sessions were designed to help the farm women develop skills that could be transformed into viable income-generating activities.

The programme also included lectures and interactive sessions on enterprise establishment, marketing strategies, and life-skills management. The participants were guided on developing enterprises, managing their activities effectively, and adopting appropriate marketing strategies for successful income generation.

College of Community Science Dean Dr Chanderkanta Vats encouraged the participants to make an effective use of the skills and knowledge acquired during the training. She emphasised the importance of such initiatives in promoting the socio-economic empowerment and uplift of women in agriculture.

Dr Vats also congratulated organisers Dr Neena Vyas, Dr Raj Pathania, Dr Sapna Gautam and Dr Bindia Dutt for successfully conducting the programme.
